Tecoma stans Seeds – Grow the Vibrant Yellow Trumpet Bush

Tecoma stans, commonly known as the Yellow Trumpet Bush or Yellow Bells, is a fast-growing shrub or small tree native to the Americas. Known for its striking, trumpet-shaped yellow flowers, it is a favorite among gardeners looking to add vibrant color to their landscapes. The flowers attract pollinators like bees and hummingbirds, making it a wonderful addition to any garden.

An Eye-Catching Ornamental Tree

The Yellow Trumpet Bush thrives in full sun and is adaptable to a variety of soil types, including well-draining, sandy, or loamy soils. It’s an excellent choice for creating hedges, borders, or as a specimen plant. With its bright yellow flowers and long blooming season, Tecoma stans brings a touch of tropical beauty to your outdoor space.

How to Grow Tecoma stans from Seeds

To germinate Tecoma stans seeds, soak them in warm water for 24-48 hours to soften the seed coat and improve germination rates. Once soaked, plant the seeds in a well-draining potting mix and keep them moist in a warm, sunny spot. After germination, you can transplant the seedlings into the garden or larger containers for continued growth and vibrant flowering.

More Information
Common name Yellow Bells
Species Tecoma stans
Germination Fresh seeds germinate readily in sandy soil in the spring. When sowing inside use 4? pots , cut up newspaper pieces and put them in the bottom. Fill with a good medium soil. You can put 3 seeds in each. Place each 4" pot in a plastic container (the big clear ones - those that are used to store clothes). Fill the plastic container with water so that the whole bottom is filled. The water height it should be kept at; is up to the 1/2-way mark of the holes in the bottom of the 4" pots. The newspaper will soak up the water, keep the dirt & seeds wet w/o drowning the seeds, and you won't have to water the seeds overhead (which can often push the seeds further into the dirt and/or displace them). Re-full the water every 3 days or so, just wait for the bottom to be dry for 1 day and then re-fill to the original level. Place it in dappled shade, with the sun pieces being only in the morning. They should germinate in about one week. Wait until they have their 2nd set of real leaves, separate them, and put them each in their own pot. Remember that germination can take longer. Be patient!
