Brugmansia suaveolens 'White', commonly known as White Angel's Trumpet, is a stunning tropical shrub or small tree prized for its large, pendulous, trumpet-shaped flowers. Native to South America, this exotic plant is known for its intensely fragrant blooms, which release a sweet, intoxicating scent in the evening.
Reaching heights of 2 to 5 meters (6 to 16 feet), this fast-growing plant produces lush, green foliage and spectacular white flowers that can grow up to 30 cm (12 inches) long. The flowers attract pollinators such as moths and hummingbirds, making it a beautiful addition to any garden.
Brugmansia suaveolens thrives in warm, humid climates and prefers well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. It flourishes in full sun to partial shade and requires regular watering, especially in dry periods. In cooler climates, it can be grown in large containers and overwintered indoors.
While its breathtaking beauty makes it a popular ornamental plant, all parts of Brugmansia suaveolens are highly toxic if ingested. Care should be taken when planting in areas accessible to children and pets. With proper care, this remarkable species will reward gardeners with continuous blooms and an enchanting evening fragrance.

Germination | Easy to grow from seed. Soak seed in warm water for 24 hours before sowing. Place seed on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays and cover with a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Maintain an optimum temperature of 60-65øF (15-18øC). Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged; germination usually takes 14-30 days, sometimes more, don't give up. Germination is greatly assisted by applying bottom heat. It can flower the first year from seed. |
Scarification / Stratification | If your home is on the low side of 70§F, your seeds will benefit from bottom heat. Give warmth from underneath to stimulate early growth, and to help seeds to germinate. The ideal situation is to maintain the soil temperature at 70§F. For this, you use an electric soil warming cable kit, or a heating mat that goes under your flats; or any other source of heat. With the proper temperature, you will cut by 2 or 3 the germination time. |
