Gymnocladus chinensis has huge, bipinnate leaves which are purplish in colour when they emerge in spring, turning dark green later. These leaves are very unusual in appearance, looking nearly tropical.
One of the most widely cultivated tree fruits. Requires some protection from the wind and should not be planted in low areas that are prone to late spring frosts.
