Drosera Broomensis
The Drosera Broomensis are found on the Northern shores of Taylor?s lagoon, east of Broome, Kimberley, and Western Australia. This carnivorous plant belongs to the Droseraceae family. They are a beautiful collection addition. Always in bloom with stunning orange flowers! The central parts of this plant are fuzzy white with dendritic hairs. An awesome wooly!!! Drosera Broomensis is the only member of this group without hairs on its stem and inflorescence. The numerous leaves, with their narrow petioles in the middle of the rosette, are not very hairy during the wet season. On the other hand, during the dry season, the hair cover increases and when the plant goes completely dormant, its leaves are replaced by a small compact cluster of hairs. Petiolaris Complex: A group of tropical Australian species which live in constantly warm but irregularly wet conditions. This group has developed special strategies to cope with the alternately drier conditions. Many species, for example, have petioles densely covered in trichomes, which maintain a sufficiently humid environment and serve as an increased condensation surface for morning dew. Hardiness Zones: 9 (-5c/25f). Use an earthy mixture only made up of natural fair peat 70% without manure and non calcareous sand 30% (aquarium store). Do not give any insects or fertilizer to the plants. The majority of the carnivorous plants need lots of light to grow suitably and sometimes the full sun, as well as important moisture of the ground. For watering, use only filtered water or demineralized water (Water for domestic iron). In the summer, place your plants in a saucer filled with 2 to 3 cm of water (mid-May to mid-September). In winter, decrease watering, remove the saucer, and do not let the water stagnate under the plant.

Germination Some people have been having great germination of petiolaris hybrids using milled long fibered Sphagnum, still getting germination eight weeks after the first seed germinated, while growing them on a south facing windowsill. Germination can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 years! Please be patient, you won?t regret it.

Important:

In winter (October-April), the plants must be placed close to a window (l5 to 20 cm) and at the same level. Keep the temperature between 15-20 øC. When the frost ends (May-October), you can leave the plants outside and place them on an east oriented windowsill. In summer, with a temperature from 20 to 30 øC, they can stay anywhere outside.
