Digitalis purpurea var. purpurea is more commonly known as Purple Foxglove and is native to Europe. It is a biennial or short-lived perennial native to Europe. The plant can grow to 4 feet tall. The flowers are redish-purple with darker spots. A rare and vivid colour. It features 2-3 inch long, pendulous flowers on long spikes in late Spring and Summer. Attractive rosettes of large leaves are produced in the first year and the tall spikes of flowers the second year. Hardiness zones 4-10, (-32øC/-25øF, 1øC/35øF) in Winter. Foxglove prefers acidic, moist, well-drained soil that is enriched with humus. They will grow in part shade. Keeping this plant watered will result in better flowering and healthier foliage.
