Lunaria Annua
Lunaria Annua, commonly known as Silver Dollar, Money Plant, is a fast-growing annual/biennial plant that grows up to 60 cm high. Money plant grows in moist, organically rich, garden soils and in full sun to part shade. This plant usually self-sows freely. As the common name suggests, the fruits are the most noteworthy ornamental feature of this plant. Showy fragrant mauve flowers appear from May to July and are followed by dramatic looking seedpods. These start out flat, circular, and green, but become silvery white, translucent and papery as they mature. When its flowers have gone the paper-thin discs are blown until they lodge in a corner somewhere. Gradually the discs turn to skeletons and scatter their seed on the earth to start a new colony. Hardiness zone: 4-8
