Common name | Yellow Lavender |
---|---|
Family | Lamiaceae |
Genus | Lavandula |
Species | Lavandula viridis |
Therapeutic uses | Infusions of Lavandula Viridis can ease headaches and encourage restfulness. |
Germination | Plant the lavender seeds about 1 inch apart. Cover very lightly with seed starting mix, no more than 1/8 inch deep. It's crucial that the seeds not be covered more deeply because lavender requires light to germinate. Mist the seeds lightly with your spray bottle, just enough to dampen the soil. Make certain that the bottle is not set to spray, this may drive the seeds too deeply into the starting mix and prevent them from germinating. Continue watering the lavender seeds with the mister every day. Do not be discouraged if you don't see growth right away, lavender can take 4-6 weeks to sprout. When the seedlings emerge continue to mist lightly with the spray bottle and keep them in a sunny, warm location until they have their true leaves. The lavender is now ready to be transplanted to your garden. |
Scarification / Stratification | Seed is very hard and will benefit from a brisk sandpaper stratification. |
