Pachypodium Rosulatum
Pachypodium rosulatum is a very rare plant from Madagascar. Very good for pot culture, it grows to 2-3 feet in height. Closely related to the Pachypodium lamerii but less common. All parts of plant are poisonous if ingested. Short and thick caudex branching into cylidrical arms dense with stout spines, and topped by a rosette of narrow oblanceolate leaves. The base is quite swollen, with stout branching mostly upright and some branching occurs from the lower base. It will produce many flowers from February to May. The pale yellow flowers may occur in its second year. Hardiness zones 9-11, (4øC/40øF,-5øC/25øF) in Winter. It will not withstand frost. Needs plenty of sun. The Pachypodium tends to lose its leave and go dormant in Winter. It then needs very little water. Use a potting mix consisting of 2 parts sand to 1 part peat moss to 1 part loam with small gravel added for increased drainage.
