Du printemps à l’été, la vigne produit plusieurs fleurs fragrantes, de 12 cm de long, parmi les feuilles pendantes. Les fleurs attrapent les insectes, ce qui facilite la fécondation.
Les bractées des Heliconias sont si larges et colorées, qu'elles cachent presque totalement les fleurs, qui sont petites et se développent à l'intérieur des bractées.
