Les feuilles prennent tout d'abord une couleur vert pâle. En vieillissant, elles développent des taches brunes ou mauves qui recouvriront éventuellement toute la feuille, laissant seulement les veines vertes.
Le Pin australien arbore un feuillage d'aiguilles remarquable. Les jeunes arbres développent une forme pyramidale et des branches ascendantes; la couronne s'ouvre avec la maturité.
