Glittering and often delicate, Byblis, the Rainbow Plants, can sometime appear as frosted sprays of water, and in sunlight can sparkle with multicolored hues.
This plant produces attractive deep red flowers in Spring, and are up to 2.5 inches, 6.5 cm across. The pitchers are produced each year from stems arising from the rhizomes and remain evergreen.
Seeds from South Africa. Drosera admirabilis is a pretty compact rosette Sundew, easy to grow. The coloration is vivid with the tentacles being a dark red and the leaves a vibrant green.
They grow well in a standard peat moss/sand which can be anything from 50% to 70% peat moss. There's no need to fertilize, as the plant relies on insects for food.
Another startling feature of the Pygmy Sundews are their size. Normally the plants grow to a maximum diameter of half an inch. Although some people are put off by their size, their beauty lie in numbers.
